Exterior Home Maintenance Program & Assistance Programs
The City of Mayfield Height's Building Department has a Home Maintenance Program that entails the inspection of the exterior of the house and surrounding yard. The inspections begin in the spring and are conducted by Building Department Inspectors. The inspectors do not need entry to your residence nor for you to be at home. Inspectors will attempt to make their inspection as brief as possible but will take time to discuss any concerns you may have. Inspectors carry identification and will be happy to present it upon request. Common areas the inspectors will look at are:
- Roof
- Chimney
- Gutters & Downspouts
- Walls, Porches, Doors, & Steps
- Foundations
- Paint
- Garage, Sheds, & Accessory
- Concrete
- Fences
- Yard Area
If violations are identified, a notice will be mailed to you along with a compliance date for completion. There are home improvement resources for homeowners who need assistance in doing repairs. See the resources below for more information.
Cuyahoga County is proud to offer a wide variety of programs to help residents maintain clean, safe, and stable homes in our neighborhoods at an affordable price. We believe that all Cuyahoga County residents deserve clean, safe, and attractive neighborhoods in which they can live, work, and raise a family.
Mayfield Heights has many older homes that are worthy of preserving and improving. To help homeowners do this, Mayfield Heights continues its participation in the Heritage Home Program, a specialized service for homes over 50 years old operated by the Cleveland Restoration Society (CRS).
The most important feature of the Heritage Home Program is that it offers free technical assistance and advice to the owners of older homes. The free technical assistance is entirely impartial and independent. CRS does not sell any products or services to the homeowners and does not charge the homeowner for the advice. Technical assistance can include:
- Assistance finding contractors
- Help to review estimates from contractors
- Color consults for exterior painting
The Heritage Home Program also offers a low-interest equity loan program. Homeowners can use this to cover the cost of maintenance and improvement work. The interest rate on these loans is a low fixed rate. Heritage Home Program loans can be for interior and exterior repairs, maintenance, additions, and modernization projects. Kitchen and bath remodeling are two popular uses of Heritage Home Program loans. The only things that cannot be done with a Heritage Home Program loan are luxury items such as swimming pools or hot tubs, vinyl siding or windows, driveways, and landscaping.
